Red Group Evolution

Learning Objective: Implement the curriculum designed for the create station at the PANDA AAC camp’s 2023 session to create a successful in-person summer camp experience focused on literacy learning for learners with complex communication needs.

Implementation: Animated song was chosen to match the dramatic play. Wheels on the bus, bus toy, people passengers, pause to pick up passengers.
Evolution of Day 2:
Book writing was scrapped due to time/interest.
Evolution of Day 3:
The book was sung to students
(impromptu recording).
Evolution of Day 4:
Students engaged with Story songs and other go/stop-themed songs.
Future Evolution:
Time structured to focus on dramatic play, songs, and ACC interaction.
Success: Students played, and leaders could model go/stop repeatedly.Success: Singing the book worked well for engagement. The art station was completed by many campers with their 1 on 1’s modelling go/stop.Success: Students chose to build and play rhythmically along with the music.
Tables were pushed back to make room for all campers, including those with mobility aids.
Success: Additional materials were quickly removed from other groups, tables were pushed back, and the group sat on the floor to explore the songs with dramatic play and fewer distractions.
